About
An author who loves the business backend of publishing. Yes, really.
I’m Pia. I write urban fantasy as P.S. Newman, and for ten years I’ve run the business side of other people’s businesses. Now I do it for authors: everything that happens Behind Your Book.
usually with a book within reach
The business half
I spent ten years as a freelance virtual assistant and business admin, mostly for ecommerce clients. I set up the systems nobody else wanted to touch: email tools, automations, the processes that keep a small business running while its owner does the real work.
Before that, I was a project manager for six years at a German car company, after a degree in economics. So yes, your numbers are in good hands.
The author half
I self-published my urban fantasy novel Nightmare City, now with more than 100 reviews on Amazon and Goodreads, plus several novellas and a Christmas short story collection.
I know what it’s like to have a list that should be working for you, and a business side that keeps pulling you away from the writing. Behind Your Book is where the two halves meet.
How I work
Four promises, in writing.
No. 1
I do the work myself
Nothing is farmed out. The person you talk to is the person working in your accounts.
No. 2
I build for readers, not shoppers
An author newsletter isn’t a sales channel with a book attached. It’s where readers stay close between books, and I build it that way.
No. 3
Your words stay yours
AI never touches your writing. Anything I write for you, like a welcome sequence, you edit before it goes anywhere.
No. 4
Everything stays in your hands
I work inside your accounts, document every step, and remove my access at handover. Your list is never mine.
and I answer emails like a human
A few more things
- I’m half-German, half-English and now live in beautiful Cape Town, South Africa.
- I spent years as a digital nomad, so time zones don’t scare me.
- Three of my favorite authors: Ilona Andrews, V.E. Schwab, Pierce Brown.
- German author writing in English? Ich spreche auch Deutsch.
